A few days ago, the French government announced that it will issue a moratorium on new oil and gas exploration licenses. At the same time, the Trudeau government announced not only that it will allow oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but that it would allow this exploration to occur in a marine area that it has designated as “protected”.
