For The Real News, I speak to Dr. Radley Horton, a professor of climate science at Columbia University and a co-author of a new, congressionally mandated report on climate change.
As Dr. Horton explains, humanity has now pumped so much CO2 into the atmosphere that a temperature increase exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius over pre-industrial levels is virtually inevitable.
Moreover, if CO2 emissions remain flat, we must achieve a zero carbon economy within 25 years in order to avoid a temperature increase in excess of 2 degrees celsius.
